Join the #LDBelong Campaign

Please join Books Beyond Words and Access All Areas to support their BELONG Campaign.
Belonging was created by a group of actors from Access All Areas – a performing arts organisation made-up of learning-disabled and autistic artists – working together with Professor the Baroness Sheila Hollins, Dr Valerie Sinason and illustrator Lucy Bergonzi. The story was created through a series of drama workshops where the actors drew upon their own experiences and feelings.

The Belong Campaign has created the Belong manifesto. Please pledge what you will personally do to make communities more inclusive everywhere.
Please tweet, using the hashtag # LDBelong what you will pledge to do to help make your community more inclusive of people with learning disabilities. If you want to add a photo of a pledge card, please do as in this link,

When the institutionalisation of people with learning disabilities has ended…

and there is enough money to spend on food and essentials,
and there are opportunities to make some choices in life
and people with learning disabilities feel good about themselves
and their friends
and there is an end to being bullied, assaulted and called names
and everyone can access healthcare, education and employment, on equal terms
We will all BELONG.

The Belong Manifesto makes some suggestions about what we can all do to make people feel they BELONG- what will you do to help make this happen?

Do we still have invisible walls that institutionalise people with learning disabilities today, even if they are living in our local community?
