Unlocking Potential with Yellow Submarine

Funded by the Big Lottery and European Social Fund, Yellow Submarine now runs an engagement project for people with learning disabilities and/or additional needs aged 17-20 wo are, or are about to become, NEET (not in education, employment, or training).

Unlocking Potential: Building Better Opportunities is a new initiative to support young people to overcome the challenges they face and begin to consider their future options.

To achieve this, we offer a bespoke program of 1:1 coaching and activities that are focused on the interests and needs of the individual and how we might help to achieve them. Through tailored packages of support that go far beyond simply providing advice, we aim to facilitate a sense of empowerment in young people, and support them to be active participants in their own lives.
Who is it aimed at?
It is aimed at people with learning disabilities and/or additional needs aged 17-20, who are or are about to become NEET.
Young people can find themselves NEET/ detached from services for a variety of reasons, but we believe that with the right support and a genuine effort to understand a young person’s individual circumstances, many entrenched barriers to employment and social inclusion can be overcome.
This project could suit those young people who:
• Are unsure of what they want to do post 16, or are unaware of their options
• Left or are leaving school early, perhaps because of exclusion
• Have not been able to secure a college place
• Have not been able to achieve the necessary grades for other education/training programmes
What support is available?
Practical support will mainly be on a 1:1 or small-group basis. Our staff are friendly, go at whatever pace suits the individual, and trained to a high standard to deliver integrated packages of fun engagement activity, real work experience, accredited and non-accredited training, employability development, and holistic support.
How can I join?
We accept referrals from families, professionals, other organizations and young people themselves. Yellow Submarine always meets an individual prior to joining any of our projects; this is to ensure that we can effectively support you, and to get a sense of where we might start.
