Dental Treatment for People with Learning Disabilities

Good afternoon,

I am writing to inform you of a government pilot scheme that Busby House Dental Centre, Didcot will be taking part in over the next year, aimed at vulnerable patients.

We recognise that access to dental treatment for some patients may remain a challenge, but is a priority due to their health, personal circumstances or mobility. Due to this, we have been selected by NHS England to provide NHS dental access clinics for vulnerable patients who fall into one of the following categories:

  • Looked After Children, who are very vulnerable and the responsibility of the local authorities

  • Families of armed forces personnel especially due to large influxes of personnel into the area

  • Asylum seekers, evacuees and refugees, who have never had dental services in this country and often do not know the language or know how to access NHS services

  • Patients who need dental check-ups in support of hospital treatment

  • Pregnant and nursing mothers

  • Residents of care homes with identified treatment needs, who are able to attend the dental practice for treatment

  • Patients with Learning Disabilities

  • Homeless patients

  • Other groups who may be locally identified as more vulnerable and would find it hard to access services

Our dental practice will be running these clinics twice a month; If you know of anybody who you think would qualify for this scheme, please ask them to contact our reception team on 01235 816486, or by e-mailing [email protected] informing them which category they fall into, and they will be able to arrange an appointment.
