Getting it right in hospital for people with an intellectual disability

I think this is very important. We have had such difficult times in hospital with my son. But will it all get through to the people who matter - is it taught at medical school or to nurses etc? I always dread our next emergency visit after the nightmares we had before - not just the medical condition but the attitudes of hospital staff and the battles I have to fight at such a stressful time - eg. getting hold of a hoist or getting nurses to understand the special needs - or a bed for me!
