My adult son, with CP, wasn’t ever constipated until in a residential care home. The home never gave many fruit or veg to eat - just lots of carbs all the time, and when I questioned this they maintained that the other residents just didn’t like vegetables. My son DOES like veg, but there were hardly any on the menu. when he inevitably got constipated, I was asked ‘shall we give him Movicon - all the residents here take it?’ I said ‘no, don’t give him movicon, give him vegetables!’ they looked at me as if I were mad, but at last started providing veg, and his bowel habits returned to normal. I wonder how many other care homes assume veg are unnecessary.
