Rights for people with LD in health care

Information from the HfT Family Carers Support Service

Who makes decisions about your health and care? Advice and support is available for people of ALL ages.

Your Rights
You have the right to be involved in discussions and decisions about your health and care. You should have things clearly and fully explained to you, so that you understand.

If you find it difficult to ask questions or understand information and you don’t have a family member or friend who can come with you, you can arrange to have an independent advocate.

If someone can’t consent to their treatment – for example, if they’re unconscious or have late-stage dementia – the NHS must get consent from a person legally able to act on their behalf.
