My Life My Choice is a self advocacy organisation based in Oxfordshire. Our vision is
a world where people with learning disabilities are treated without prejudice and
are able to have choice and control over their own lives.
The Computer Buddy Project is our digital inclusion initiative. The aim of this project is
to help our members with a learning disability to develop their digital skills by
providing them with laptops and tablets for free and delivering free training and
support.
We are looking for volunteers to work one on one with our members to help them
learn new digital skills, for example how to send an email or use Zoom. Support will
be delivered in person, at the member’s home or at the MLMC office. Hours can be
flexible but you may be asked to commit to regular training sessions with members
so that consistent and effective support can be provided.
You do not need to be a technical computer expert to be a Computer Buddy
volunteer! A great Computer Buddy volunteer will have:
- The ability to be patient and remain calm when supporting others
- The ability to communicate clearly and effectively
- A commitment to the practice of empowering people with learning disabilities to have choice and control over their lives
- A UK driving licence and access to a car
